Pantone has announced their
colour of the year, Greenery.
In years past we've had Rose
Quartz and Serenity for 2016, Marsala for
2015 and Radiant Orchid for 2014. The last three
years have focused on a similar set of colours, while this year is a major
shift towards a vibrant and revitalizing green.
When it comes to choosing
the color of the year, Pantone has explained that the process works like
this. "The process, which takes about nine months, is highly subjective,
as Pantone admits, and more about instinct than science. Essentially, the team
fans out across the globe and explores industries, to collect what they refer
to as “proof points” — from car shows, on the runways, in decorator showcases
and so on. At a certain stage they begin to notice meaningful overlap
and narrow down the choices. Then one shade achieves critical mass."
Pantone describes Greenery
as "a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of
spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of
flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying
attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and
reinvigorate."
Pantone has already paired
Greenery with 10 different palettes that are sure to appeal to designers and
architects, no matter what mood they choose to evoke. Whether you're still in
love with Rose Quartz and Serenity from last year, or want
something vibrant, such as their Moody Blooms palette, there is something for
every taste. This is truly a versatile color.
We don't advise painting
all of your walls in this colour, however, as it would be a bit
overwhelming. Use the colour instead as a focal point to draw the attention,
like the front door, to create a welcoming and invigorating feeling. “The
Pantone green is a darker lime, bringing nature into the home and getting us to
think about the beauty of gardens and lush forests,” says Erika
Woelfel, vice president of colour and creative service at Behr Paints.
There are two things to
keep in mind when working with Greenery.
Keep the Mood in Mind.
This is a very vibrant and
active colour. It's best suited to a room that sees a lot of activity, rather
than somewhere to sleep or relax.
Remember the Lighting
For a room that doesn't get
much natural light, the colour will add a sense of energy. However, for rooms
that do get plenty of sunlight, the changing light throughout the day will
affect how you see and think of the colour. It's best to paint large sections
of the wall first, and observe it over a week or so, before committing to
painting.
At LWC, we can't wait to
start working with this colour and continue bringing the latest and greatest
trends to the Australian furnishing industry.
